Supper Club

Today is one of my favorite days of the month.  Tonight we are getting together with our Supper Club group. What is Supper Club you ask?  Well, I'll tell you...

About 28 years ago, 7 young couples, all going to the same church at the time, and living in the same neighborhood, got together for a "Sweet Heart" Valentines dinner.  The host provided the meat dish, bread and drinks.  The other couples brought a side dish.  Everyone had a blast and we decided to continue getting together once a month.  Each month we meet at a different home, and we have a great little wheel to keep everyone straight on whose turn it is and what food dish to bring.

Over the years, we have seen babies born, children grow up and grandchildren enter the world.  All of us are now grandparents except for us, and we only have about six more weeks to wait.  We have been on many vacations together, including ski trips, a trip to Santa Fe,  and several summertime weekend house boat adventures.  Attending our children's weddings, near and far, has also been a frequent activity.

We have celebrated the good times together and supported each other through the bad times.  We have helped each other move to bigger houses and through job changes, illness, and deaths in the family.  None of us has been divorced and we all still live in the same city.

I think we are a pretty unique group.

TaDa

So I finally finished the cardigan that I started a little over two weeks ago at the Jane Thornley Knitting Workshop that I went to in California.  I would have finished it last week, but I ran out of the purple yarn for the edging and wasn't able to find something else to use until today.  It has been a lot of fun.

While waiting to get more purple yarn, I also made this little shrug.  I like the way the back turned out.

Now, what should I work on next?

Azalea Explosion

It's an azalea explosion in our backyard!   (The front yard as well.)   I love this time of year when everything starts to bloom.

And Wood Hyacinths,

and Honeysuckle, too.

I've also been knitting a lot and had to order some additional yarn to finish the cardigan from the workshop.  It should come in a day or two and I only have a little bit left to go before it's finished.  I'll post photos when it's done.

Showering

We went to a baby shower for Linz and soon to arrive Baby M.  We had a wonderful time.  The food and decorations were great and Baby M was appropriately showered.  Linz and Husker are using a safari theme for the nursery so there were lots of jungle critters and animal prints lurking around.

Linz had a good time opening all of the gifts and checking out all of the cute baby stuff.

We came home and worked on packing everything for them to take home to Denver on the plane.  We got almost all of it all in.  Doc20 and I will take the rest the next time we go.  Baby M is due in eight weeks and we are all looking forward to his arrival.

It was a really fun day!

Friday Surprise

This morning we got up early and picked up a rented SUV that would seat six.  Doc20 and I loaded up Linz, Husker, Baby Bird and her mom and headed to Tyler.   We went to visit 5 week old Baby Bird's great grandparents.  They knew that we were coming with Linz and Husker, but didn't know that we were bring Baby B.  Since they hadn't gotten to meet her yet, it was a big surprise.  I think they were excited when they saw that she was with us.

Grandma fixed us a big noontime dinner and, since it was cold and raining, we sat around and visited until time to come home.  I, of course, was also able to spend the two hours each way in the car -- knitting!
More fun stuff happening tomorrow!  Don't change that dial!

Yesterday was cold and rainy, (as is today),  so what better than to knit almost all day.  I finished one of the front sides to my workshop cardigan and started the other one.  I have lots to do today, so I don't think I'll get much more done, but I'm sure I'll finish it just about the time the weather gets too warm for me to wear it here.  But wait,  we are going to Portland the first week in April -- maybe it will be cold enough to wear it there.
We also made it to Mid-week Mexican.  My Mom was the only one that joined us this week.  However, Linds and her Husker hubby are coming tonight for the weekend (from Denver) so we're going again on Friday to give her a Mexican fix.  Lots of fun things coming for the weekend -- stay tuned!

Wonderful Weekend

Doc20 and I had a really great weekend.  One of my Christmas gifts this year was a trip to San Juan Capistrano, CA, for a knitting workshop.  We left on Thursday night, had all day Friday to explore and then I got to knit for two days at the workshop!  It was really fun.  The gardens and flowers around the Mission and in the town were beautiful.

The town of SJC is really cute.  We visited the Mission, some shops and had lunch at a great little place called Sundried Tomato Cafe.

In the afternoon we went to the town of Laguna Beach.  We checked out a yarn store, the beach and lots of shops.  We ate dinner at a place called Sorrento Grill.  The food was wonderful!

On Saturday and Sunday I knitted with Jane Thornley using her free form feather and fan technique.  The other ladies in the class were wonderful as well as the food and knitting.  I think we all had a great time.

This is a photo of what will be the back of a cardigan.  Maybe I'll finish it before all of the cool days are gone.  If not, I guess I'll just have to wear it to Denver or Portland!

The whole weekend was really fun and a really great Christmas gift.  All of the ladies at the workshop were very impressed with Doc20.

All of the laundry has now been done, errands run and bills paid.  Weekend catch-up is done.  Yea!  Have a great day!

Mid-Week Mexican

I love Wednesdays.  We almost always go to our favorite Mexican food restaurant for dinner. We've been a Wednesday regular for several years now and have been eating there on other random nights for 25 or 30 years.  The wait staff and owner know us and make us feel at home We love the food  (the chicken enchiladas are the best!) and I don't think I've ever had a meal I didn't like.  It's not the fancy "southwestern" or "gourmet" version, just good old TexMex.  We're there every week at 6:00 and anyone is welcome to join us.  My mom usually joins us and often Baby Bird and her Mom and Dad as well as other friends and relatives.  I just ask for those that are coming to let me know so I know what size table to request!  Hope you'll join us soon!

Also, I had a computer class this morning at the Apple store.  I'm learning how to use my new MacBook.  Today he showed me how to insert a link and some photo stuff.  I mainly just learned that there is a lot I don't know.

Tomorrow, Doc20 and I leave for California for the weekend.  I'm going to a really cool knitting workshop taught by Jane Thornley.  It should be lots of fun.  I'll give you a review when I get back.

Not Me Monday

I did not drop my contact lens and spend over an hour looking for it and then find it wedged between the arm and seat cushion of my desk chair.  Not me...
